BIG BAMBOO TACKLES THE KNARESBOROUGH ROUND FOR PANCREATIC CANCER UK

On Thursday 8th June, the Big Bamboo team dusted off our walking boots and took on another mighty hike – the Knaresborough Round. This time, we were doing it for our chosen charity for 2023, Pancreatic Cancer UK, a cause very close to the group’s heart.

In the months leading up to the walk Becky McDonnell, our HR Consultant and close friend, and Nicola Stamford, our Founding Director, set the tone for our fundraising efforts by training for the London marathon in April. Nicola, who put in so many miles in training, picked up a calf injury agonisingly close to the day and was forced to pull out. Becky kept things moving without her however, doing us all proud and completing the marathon in super quick time. Together, the girls helped lift our fundraising total for Pancreatic Cancer UK to a whopping £5,848 – an astonishing, inspiring effort, and one which geed the rest of us on to complete the walk with no complaints…

With a distance of around 20 miles, the Knaresborough Round was a pretty big challenge for most of us, but we all had an absolute blast bonding (and blistering) in the Knaresborian sunshine. We completed the hike in just over seven hours, with our Managing Director and resident fitness guru Jen Winterschladen leading the charge and motivating the troops as usual. When times became tough, we were grateful to have each other; not only as motivation to keep going, but also to provide much-needed entertainment when madness kicked in. The alphabet dessert game was an instant classic among the team.

There were some seriously tired legs in the office the next day when we re-grouped for breakfast, but the wholesome couple of days served as a lovely reminder of the value of getting together as a group and challenging ourselves!
